My Original Fern Butterfly and Bee Puddler Stone

This is an Original Butterfly Puddler Stone!  This one of a kind and unique piece is the perfect gift for your gardener, Christmas morning, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day or just any day for butterfly gardens!   When my mother came to live with me with Alzheimer’s, I began to experiment with Puddler designs and this is my first one.  I have since expanded to other designs!  THANK YOU for supporting your local butterflies and bees in your area.

This design features a fern…..the design that started my Puddler business and many have copied.  The fern is green and although beautiful, Pollinators are not attracted to green.  I added the round, colorful divet to attract your local Pollinators.   That is it’s simple purpose, and we use colors to attract both Butterflies and Bees.  This fern design has maintained it’s top position in our sales and shares that place with the Lavender.  We are always grateful that we can grace your garden and decks with our little salt lick for Pollinators.

Butterflies require these salts and minerals to breed and Bees use it to cure their honey.

Just leave this high-fire stoneware outside where it will be exposed to rain, and preferably, near plants for Butterflies to gather nectar from. It isn’t a lure, so it won’t pull them away from flowers, but it is a wonderful addition to your garden. As long as it is allowed to dry out between rains, (put a few pebbles under it to make it dry out faster), it will accumulate a film of salt and minerals that the butterfly will land on and uncurl their little proboscis to take in these minerals. For more speedy results, pour some saltwater, ideally, Himalayan salt water, over the Puddler to get it salted. Also, in the cold winter months, if you see bees out trying to find pollen or nectar, pour some sugar water over it to help them through the winter months. In Florida, we have a non-migrating population of Monarchs and they will benefit from sugar water during the winter months.

All Puddlers come with instructions. Butterfly & Bee Puddlers are self-maintaining. These are high fired pieces that can be showcased in all weather, indoor & outdoor.

Some competitors send a small packet of salt or sand (that washes away at the first few drops of rain) with the Puddlers they make. We do not because the clay acts as a slow sponge to absorb the rain then dry out leaving a natural residue of salts and minerals. The colorful designs and bright divet colors attract the butterflies and other Pollinators.

I work with local Monarch Butterflies in my neighborhood. I bring in baby caterpillars and protect them from natural predators until they are safely flying Monarchs. This takes about a month from egg to Butterfly with a LOT of milkweed for the caterpillars in between! (Each caterpillar eats around 16 leaves, or one milkweed plant). By purchasing a Puddler, you contribute to my never for profit, unending tasks to increase the population of the Monarch in my local area. (Their population has declined 90%, and are slowly starting to increase their numbers with people across the country providing Milkweed and Way Stations for migrating Monarchs).
